Syria Crisis Appeal – Oxfam appeals for further help

Oxfam Cymru would like to thank the many people across Wales for their generous response to the humanitarian crisis in Syria. But with the situation escalating Oxfam is appealing for more funds with the aim of helping 650,000 people over the coming 12 months. This crisis is now Oxfam’s number one priority.

Why?

The statistics are stark:

Nearly seven million people need humanitarian assistance in Syria;

More than 1.4 million refugees have now fled and are in desperate need of shelter, food and water;

8,000 people are fleeing Syria every day;

Violence is continuing to escalate with explosives often targeting heavily populated areas.

What are we doing?

Oxfam is on the ground in Jordon and Lebanon providing emergency assistance to refugees. We are providing people with safe water and sanitation, housing and shelter and meeting people’s basic needs.

But that’s not all.

Oxfam knows that there needs to be a long term solution which is why we are lobbying hard for more international aid and an international commitment to bring lasting peace.
