Scottish party leaders must together use powers to build a fairer, greener Scotland

Today First Minister Humza Yousaf is chairing a cross-party discussion on the country’s aim to reach net zero by 2045.

Responding to the meeting, Jamie Livingstone, Head of Oxfam Scotland, said: “Around the world, millions of people face losing their lives, homes and livelihoods to a crisis they did least to cause while governments allow the richest to plunder the planet and pollute for profit.

“Scotland has missed eight of the last 12 annual emission reduction targets, so we urgently need the party leaders to unite and end that damaging trend by delivering a new wave of fast and fair climate action.

“A better future isn’t a world away, but the party leaders must together use devolved powers to their maximum to build the fairer, greener country the people of Scotland want, including by ensuring the biggest polluters pay the bill for the damage they’re causing.”
