Oxfam’s Perth shop is celebrating a bumper book sale, with a rare read raking in a record £2,000.

The book, a British first edition of Mince Collop Close, was donated to the shop several months ago as part of a much larger donation of George Blake’s works.

Initially nestled at the bottom of a box waiting to be valued, the rare find was discovered by sharp-eyed Shop Manager Beckie Andrews.

This British first edition, complete with its dust jacket and in remarkable condition, was then valued by the shop team and listed online, where it caught the eye of a discerning collector.

Becki said: “We were absolutely thrilled when we realised the true value of this book; it’s not every day you stumble upon a hidden gem and it just goes to show that even the most unassuming donations can have incredible value. We’re over the moon to have raised so much money through a single sale for Oxfam’s life changing work around the world, thanks to a generous donor and a little literary luck.”

As the shop launches its annual Second Hand September campaign, staff at the store are inviting everyone to join the movement by dropping off their pre-loved books and other items and exploring the shop to uncover more hidden gems.

Becki added: “Oxfam’s Second Hand September is the perfect time to embrace the impact of choosing second-hand. By donating your pre-loved items, you’re giving them a new life, and when you shop second-hand, you’re uncovering hidden treasures while supporting Oxfam’s mission to create a future free from poverty. This incredible sale shows that every donation and every purchase, no matter how small, can make a real difference.”
