Hooves of Hope: Rothesay Race Night Aims to Raise Considerable Charity Cash

Race night, 28 September at Rothesay Shinty Club. Doors from 7pm, first race at 7.30pm.

Rothesay residents are being challenged to giddy up for giving, as Oxfam’s Rothesay shop launches ticket sales for its latest fundraising evening.

Shop staff and volunteers will be hosting a ‘race night’ at Bute Shinty Club at the Meadows on Saturday 28 September from 7pm, with the first race starting at 7.30pm.

Five pre-recorded races will be screened, and attendees will receive a race card and a stash of monopoly style Oxfam ‘cash’ to spend ‘betting’ on the race outcomes.

The luckiest punter will be able to exchange their winnings for some exciting prizes being donated by local businesses, including vouchers from local shops, cinema tickets and restaurant vouchers.

Jan Cochrane, Oxfam’s Rothesay Shop Manager, is encouraging local residents to buy a ticket and saddle up in support of a good cause. She said: “Our annual race night promises to be a really enjoyable evening; filled with fun, friendly competition and horsing around.

“By buying a ticket and coming along you’re not just guaranteeing a good night: you’re doing your bit to build a world free from poverty and injustice: something I’m sure we can all agree is the most important finish line to aim for.”

Last year the shop’s race night raised an amazing £800.

Tickets cost £10 and are available from Oxfam’s shop at 21 Montague Street.
