Pop-rock band The Magic Numbers have performed a special acoustic set at the Edinburgh Oxfam Music shop to launch our annual music festival Oxjam.
The band, whose hits include “Forever Lost” and “Love Me Like You”, played just hours before a sold-out tour date in the Capital. They gave lucky fans the opportunity to see them “unplugged” and up close in the Oxfam shop in Stockbridge.
The mini-gig helped launch this year’s Oxjam in Scotland, with hundreds of events being run by volunteers with a passion for music, all raising money for charity. The festival is now in its seventh year.
During October across the UK, more than 800 venues, 6,000 volunteers, 6,000 musicians and 180,000 audience members will enable Oxjam to raise at least £400,000 for Oxfam’s work fighting poverty at home and abroad.
Lead singer Romeo Stodart said: “We were honoured to play Oxfam in Edinburgh, as part of Oxjam’s seventh birthday celebrations. Not only did it give us the chance to play to people who missed out on tickets to our show at the Pleasance Theatre, it gave us the opportunity to play our songs unplugged, stripped back to basics, the way they were written.
“Most importantly though, we got to support Oxfam, a charity that does so much for so many, worldwide.”

Sasha Mazhar, Oxjam Scotland co-ordinator, said: “This year’s line-up of Oxjam gigs has something for everyone and covers the country, from the Shetlands islands to the cities.
“It’s fantastic that The Magic Numbers have supported us by playing this exclusive mini-gig for fans in an Oxfam shop – it’s not every day that happens.
“The band and all the other musicians and event organisers across Scotland, will help us raise thousands of pounds for Oxfam’s vital work around the world.”
As well as one-off gigs taking place, there are five “Take-over” events happening in Scotland this year. These multi-gig events are happening in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Shetlands and offer several bands on one ticket.
In addition to these gigs, and for the first time, music is taking over the Oxfam shop network. In October, selected Oxfam shops across the UK will be encouraging people to buy limited edition vinyl and donate from their own collections, to help the charity raise money through music to help to lift people out of poverty.
