Music fans are being offered a unique chance to get their hands on a rare piece of music history as a vinyl LP by Stealers Wheel founder Gerry Rafferty, and signed by celebrated Scottish playwright and artist John Byrne, goes up for sale.
The record is a copy of Gerry Rafferty’s 1979 studio album ‘Night Owl’ which has been signed on its front cover by the late John Byrne, the artist behind the record’s vivid psychedelic sleeve.
The record was handed in to Oxfam’s specialist music shop on Glasgow’s Byres Road by a generous member of the public. Staff have listed it for sale on Oxfam’s online shop for £499.99, with money raised from the sale set to help fund Oxfam’s life-saving work around the world.
The inscription from John, written in black marker pen across the plumage of the giant owl on the front cover, reads: ‘John Byrne, For Bob’. Beyond some slight wear and tear, the record remains in very good condition, with the signature described as ‘beautifully preserved’.
