The Plant 2 Plate Project kicked off at the allotment in the grounds of Tredegar House on Wednesday. Three of the families supported through Oxfam Cymru’s UK Poverty Project at Duffryn Community Link turned up and really got stuck in.
“They achieved lots in the first day on site- putting together and siting eight raised beds, and sowing seeds in the greenhouse. There was a real sense of team working and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can’t wait to go back next week,” says Jane Lewis, Duffryn Community Link’s learning co-ordinator.
“It’s important that children learn where food comes from so that they understand about being healthy.
“We had the idea of having stands and cookers at the allotment in the future, so that after growing the food we can look at food creation and recipe ideas,” she added.
The Co-operative Group in Wales raised funds for Plant 2 Plate as part of the Seeds of Hope partnership to support growing projects in Wales and in Africa..
