Colleagues and friends joined Marilyn Coward to celebrate her 30 years of volunteering with Oxfam Cymru in September. A special cake was made by Rachel Morris from Glyncoch, near Pontypridd, a supporter of Oxfam’s UK Poverty Project partners Glyncoch Community Regeneration. Head of Oxfam Cymru Julian Rosser presented Marilyn with flowers and a certificate, badge and message from the charity’s Director of Campaigns and Policy, Ben Phillips.
Marilyn became an admin volunteer in Whitchurch Road in 1983 and (with breaks for employment) carried on in this role until she was recruited into the education department in 1991 – she has worked in this area ever since.
A native of Cardiff, Marilyn is married with two grown-up sons who have families of their own. When not doing her regular Wednesday stint at Oxfam, she practises yoga and goes to the gym. She loves nothing better than travelling abroad with her husband.
Marilyn said: “The years have passed by very quickly and I have had the good fortune to meet many interesting people from different walks of life. I am very grateful to everyone at Oxfam Cymru – staff, volunteers past and present and everyone connected with it for making my experience a very fulfilling one.”
