Welsh People urged to dig deep for Gaza

Oxfam Cymru has called on the generous spirit of the people of Wales to dig deep and support the people of Gaza.

In a letter to First Minster Carwyn Jones, Oxfam Cymru has asked for his leadership in gathering Welsh support for the humanitarian aid effort in Gaza

Kirsty Davies, Head of Oxfam Cymru said “A quarter of Gaza’s population have now fled their homes, but there is nowhere for them to go. In an area twice the size of Anglesey, with 26 times the population this is a crisis of alarming proportions.”

“Oxfam, along with our partners, we are responding to the mounting human cost. We are providing assistance to around 97,000 people, but with an estimated 1,800,000 affected by the conflict, much more is needed.”

The devastation inflicted on Gaza has resulted in a growing food crisis, limited access to water and extensive damage to medical facilities.

Kirsty added: “The human cost to civilians is outrageous and unacceptable. I have asked the First Minister to provide his support and help us keep aid flowing to the people of Gaza at this crucial time.”

Since the current conflict began almost one month ago, more than 1373 people have been killed and around 7000 have been injured.

Oxfam are currently calling for the international community to help secure meaningful peace talks that bring security and development to all Palestinians and Israelis, a permanent ceasefire and an end to the blockade of Gaza.
