This month Oxfam Cymru, Christian Aid and Action Aid bring you a screening of a new award-winning documentary, ‘The UK Gold’ in the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.
This film explores global tax dodging through the eyes of an east London vicar, Revd William Taylor, following him as he stands up to the financial institutions of the City of London.
“I hadn’t realised the extent of the impact tax dodging has on aid and the developing world,” said Revd Taylor. “There are countries in Africa struggling because the City is helping companies that operate there to channel funds through havens and avoid paying the taxes they owe.”
We got promises on transparency from UK tax havens as part of the IF campaign and now we need to make sure those promises are kept. We are showing this film to build pressure on UK overseas territories to ensure they keep their promise to sign up to a multilateral convention on tax matters at the end of November.
Watch the film with us on the 16th November and join the discussion afterwards with campaigners and speakers from the three organisations involve
