Oxfam shop celebrates 45th anniversary

The Oxfam shop in Abergavenny is celebrating its 45th anniversary this Tuesday, 3rd October, in the same week as Oxfam’s 75th anniversary on the 5th October.

The shop has maintained a presence in the town since 1972, and has help to raise vital funds in the fight against poverty worldwide.

One of the volunteers, Barbara Karsten is also retiring as a volunteer, shop manager, treasurer, and new product specialist. She has contributed to raising millions in the shop over the years.

The Abergavenny shop manager, James Noble said;

“This is a very special anniversary for us, and we would like to thank everyone who as contributed to the success of this shop. We would also like to thank the volunteers who have played a vital part of running this shop over the past forty-five years.

“The shop has managed to succeed in this town because of the vital and heart-warming support we have received from our volunteers. Without them, we would not be here today. We are always looking for enthusiastic people to come help us, if only for a few hours every week. It’s a brilliant way of meeting new people and making friends while also doing your part in the fight to end poverty. Why not give it a try!”
