Oxfam Bangor Celebrates Welsh Language Music Day 2020!
Friday the 7th of February is Welsh Music Day, a day to celebrate the variety and wealth of Welsh music.
Sain in Llandwrog, North Wales, is one of Wales’ most famous record labels. Founded over 50 years ago, the company is responsible for releasing a variety of music from Dafydd Iwan to Georgia Ruth and everything in between!
On Monday the 20th of February, Rachel, Manager of our Oxfam Shop in Bangor, was invited to Sain by Director Dafydd Roberts, to receive a large collection of Welsh records from Sain’s archive, to sell at the shop. Sain was keen to help us raise funds for our work to fight poverty.
During her visit, Rachel was given a guided tour around the site and the fabulous recording facilities. This was of great interest as Rachel ran her own international recording company before joining Oxfam. Rachel and all members of the Oxfam team would like to say a big thank you to Sain for the warm welcome and for donating this amazing collection to our shop in Bangor.
The Sain collection will be for sale at Oxfam Bangor on Dydd Music Cymru – Welsh Music Day, Friday the 7th of February. Customers will also have the opportunity to browse through further Welsh music collections as well as our selection of Welsh books and more.
Oxfam is extremely grateful to our customers for their continued support. If you would like to donate products or items to help us fight poverty in Wales and the world, please contact your local shop. Every item is appreciated and helps us raise vital funds for our work.
Thanks to Rachel and the team at Oxfam, Bangor for sharing this story with us and we wish you all a happy Welsh Music Day!
Heulwen Davies, Oxfam Cymru.
