Thank you to everyone in Wales who held an Oxfam Get Together to celebrate International Women’s Day and raise money to transform the lives of women living in poverty around the world. Get Together host Sian Jones from Mold, said “The idea of supporting women in particular really gave our event a specific aim and made us feel part of a worldwide community, so thank you for the opportunity to raise money for women.”
Here are some of the highlights……..
Three friends, who each run their own business, organised a Get Together at an indoor climbing centre, which made for a really exciting venue. They set up stalls and invited mothers with young babies to join them. Peppa Pig made an appearance while mums enjoyed a free coffee and wall climbing taster sessions. The event was a big success, raising over £200.
Sands Hairdressing salon raised £175 with a Get Together for colleagues and clients. It was a great team-building event, with staff taking part in a bake-off competition and offering hand and arm massages in return for a small donation. Owner Sally Davies said “I thought I would organise a Get Together because our main client base is women. I wanted to show support and care for women worldwide – this fitted with our salon ethos and I thought it would be fun”.
Judith, a top-notch cellist, led a music class for mums and babies. They all had great fun and made a lot of lovely noise!
Hannah Beadsworth held a Get Together at the local women’s gym. With raffle prizes donated by local business, a cake sale and a ‘guess-the-calories-in-the-cake’ competition, she raised an amazing £458.
